In form not typically seen from the passing LaSalle football team, the Lancers did their best to keep the ball out of the air. With 3 of his starting offensive lineman out due to injury, freshman QB Nick Watson did not have the same amount of time in the pocket that he had the week prior. His passes were not connecting (7 of 21) and he only shipped 3 in Derek's direction (1 of which was catchable).
The offense was only responsible for 1 of the 4 TDs which occurred in the first drive in the first quater. Morgan Wilcox was the shining star for what was overall a weak LaSalle offensive game. Morgan, like freight train with a cow catcher clearing obstacles from the track, he carried the ball 11 times for 134 yards. Derek's downfield blocking was complimentary to the running game.
The defense and return teams carried LaSalle to the victory. The defense forced 4 turnovers, 3 of which were interceptions thrown by Blake Bir, one of Kentucky's top QBs. Jaleel Hytchye, highly recruited DB, picked off 1 of the 3, for 60 yards and a TD. Jeremy Larkin ran a punt return 60 yards up the sideline for a TD. Lemuel Weyer recovered a fumble and ran it 42 yards for a TD.
Prior to this game, Covington Catholic put up 90 points combined in their first two games holding their opponents to 0.
If only LaSalle can get all their engines firing at once...
