Derek Kief - LaSalle vs. St. Xavier - 8 Receptions for 109 Yards (3 straight 100+ games)

LaSalle Lancers football team played St. Xavier Bombers on October 5th, 2012 at LaSalle, OH.  LaSalle lost 31-14.

Derek ended the game with:
    •    8 receptions for 109 yards
    •    an average of 13.6 yards per catch
    •    longest reception of 25 yards
    •    0 touchdowns

St. X is having a fantastic year and they are very well coached. The Bombers did their homework and came prepared to defend. Derek was faced with double and triple coverage all night. Although, even with the overload of coverage, Derek made himself an open target. While 8 receptions and 109 yards is nothing to be ashamed of, he could have easily put up 12+ receptions again this week.

LaSalle's Senior Quarterback, Brad Burkhart hasn't fully recovered from a separated shoulder injury and it was uncertain if he would play or not. Brad threw 61 balls, connecting on 24 for 302 yards, 0 TD and 3 interceptions. Next week LaSalle travels to Michigan to play Brother Rice. Everyone is hoping the Lancers are healed up and can make adjustments where necessary.

Maybe we'll see Derek being moved around a little more, he would be ideal in the slot within 15-20 yards of the goal line. LaSalle could also take advantage of another WR with height, hands and the ability to make big plays...Izaiah Fuller. No one is quite sure why Izaiah is not getting reps but two 6'5" WR's on the field at the same time, that would be tough for any team to defend.

The defense has been pretty solid outside of missing a couple QB keepers last night. If LaSalle makes some adjustments and keep their heads up, they have the opportunity to pull off a winning season.

GO LANCERS!
